A Message from our Director

Rockfish Camp & Retreat Center is a special ‘place apart’, where guests are invited to step away from the distractions of everyday life and connect with God, each other, and the beauty of God’s creation.  Even as we encourage folks to come to camp and unplug, reliable internet is a basic necessity of modern life:

• Retreat presenters want the ability to share videos and other web-based content.

• Camp staff use the internet daily to communicate, plan and manage numerous administrative tasks supporting camp activities.

• Some camp guests require reliable wireless for safety – like our Diabetes Boot Camp where campers wear glucose meters for health monitoring .

 

While our location is undeniably beautiful, it is not ideally located for internet service. The closest antennae is 4 miles away, and signal strength is weak.  Our research has led us to the conclusion that bringing fiber optic cable to camp is our best solution for internet reliability and, ultimately, for cost savings.

We need your help to raise $32,000 for the complete installation of fiber optic lines throughout camp.

 

To reduce costs, we are partnering with Connect Works Inc. for materials, programming and training. Our skilled, hard-working Rockfish team will do most of the hard work laying cable while developing skills for system maintenance.

• Rockfish team constructs shed to house connection point at camp

• Internet provider delivers fiber optic access to camp

• Connect Works directs trenching of cable to The Point

Phase 2

• Connect Works directs trenching of cable to The Bergland

Phase 3

• Rockfish team completes trenching of cable to Dining Hall

Phase 4

• Rockfish team completes trenching of cable to Offices

• Connect Works installs new internet based phone system, improving service and saving camp $1000 per month.

Phase 5

• Rockfish team completes trenching of cable to the swimming pool

Phase 6

• Rockfish team completes trenching of cable to Maintenance and Residence.

Phase 7

• Rockfish team completes trenching of cable to complete the fiber ring circuit.

• Connect Works completes contract with fine tuning of system for maximum efficiency and operation of backup redundancy.
