Nick was born in Buffalo, NY, but grew up in Kentucky. At a young age Nick showed interest in the outdoors he spent summers with his grandmother in Buffalo hiking, swimming, and doing all things outdoors. What really put him on the path of outdoor education was a trip to Robert Treman State Park. He saw people in green suits that asked if they could play with him in the creek, and he was quick to ask "You can get paid to play in the creek?" from that moment on he knew he wanted to be a naturalist.
He graduated from Hocking College in a degree in Natural in Historical Interpretation and Unity College in Maine in a degree in Parks and Recreation and Eco-tourism. Nick loves to do anything outdoors to include primitive skills, hiking, fishing, and golfing. He moved from Chicago where he worked as the Outdoor Environmental Education Program Specialist for Chicago Parks District to the Fayetteville area due to his wife's relocation, and has found a home at Rockfish Camp and Retreat Center.
Matthew Balte or just “Balte” as he is known in camp circles, grew up in Carrollton, GA and attended camp in the north Georgia mountains throughout his childhood. He met his wife, Emily, at Georgia Southern where they both served as interns at the Wesley Foundation. They have served on summer staffs at camps in the Peach State and look forward to what God is doing here at Camp Rockfish!
